About EN 18286 AI QMS Copilot
EN 18286 Copilot helps organisations that provide AI systems understand EN 18286:2026, the CEN-CENELEC standard for an artificial intelligence quality management system for EU AI Act regulatory purposes (JTC 21, under Commission standardisation request M/613). It supports implementation of the provider QMS duty in Article 17 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 for one or more AI systems in scope, and covers life-cycle themes published in official catalogue summaries: regulatory compliance strategy, management responsibility, risk management integration, data governance, verification and validation, technical documentation, supply chain, post-market monitoring, serious incident reporting, and continual improvement. Published July 2026; not yet cited in the Official Journal of the EU, so it does not yet confer a presumption of conformity. ISMS Copilot provides original plain-English guidance only and does not reproduce normative clause text from the paywalled standard.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is EN 18286?
EN 18286:2026 is a European standard from CEN-CENELEC JTC 21 for a quality management system that supports EU AI Act regulatory purposes, especially the provider QMS requirement in Article 17. It specifies QMS requirements for organisations providing AI systems, with the QMS applied to one or more systems in scope.
Does EN 18286 give presumption of conformity yet?
Not yet. The standard was published in July 2026, but until it is cited in the Official Journal of the EU it does not confer a presumption of conformity under the AI Act. Re-check OJEU status before relying on it for conformity assessment.
How does EN 18286 differ from ISO/IEC 42001?
ISO/IEC 42001 is an organisation-level AI management system for responsible AI governance. EN 18286 is a QMS standard for organisations providing AI systems, written for EU AI Act regulatory purposes and applied to the AI systems in its scope. The two can be used together.
