BC PIPA Copilot
British Columbia's private-sector privacy statute, including non-commercial activity.
What the BC PIPA Copilot Can Do
Walk BC PIPA by Part and section title from the official Act on BC Laws
Separate BC PIPA from Alberta PIPA and from PIPEDA
Draft consent, employee-personal-information, access, and correction documentation against BC section numbers
Prepare notification records where the Act titles those duties
Cross-map to PIPEDA for inter-provincial and international commercial activity
Keep BC FIPPA (public bodies) out of this page. That is a different statute
About BC PIPA Copilot
BC PIPA Copilot helps organisations that collect, use, or disclose personal information in British Columbia work through the Personal Information Protection Act, SBC 2003, c. 63. Unlike PIPEDA, BC PIPA is not limited to commercial activity. Documentation support only. Not legal advice and not an OIPC BC determination.

Does BC PIPA only apply to commercial activity?
No. That is a PIPEDA trigger. BC PIPA applies to organisations in the province more broadly, including some non-commercial activity. Confirm scope against s. 3 of the official Act. The Copilot helps you walk the sections. It does not decide jurisdiction.
Is this the same PIPA as Alberta?
No. Same short name, different statute (SBC 2003, c. 63 vs SA 2003, c. P-6.5), different commissioner. Use /frameworks/ca-ab-pipa for Alberta.
How does this sit next to PIPEDA?
For most intra-BC private-sector activity the provincial Act is deemed substantially similar under PIPEDA s. 26(2)(b). Inter-provincial and international commercial activity, and federally regulated works, can still engage PIPEDA. See /frameworks/ca-pipeda.
